Are you finding it challenging to find a pair of softball shoes for your wide feet? Do you feel like you try several different styles but they all end up being too narrow for your feet? Finding a pair of softball shoes for your wide or extra wide feet can be a frustrating and time-consuming experience, especially if you don’t know exactly what shoe styles to look for. The good news is that over the years I became familiar with the best wide softball shoes for women.

To give you a bit of context, when women are playing softball, they are stressing out their feet and legs at a whole different level. This makes them put more pressure on parts of their bodies where they are not supposed to. So, it’s important to wear the correct type of cleats that provide good shock absorption to minimize the impact that their feet and legs take every time they come in contact with the ground.

If you wear a pair of softball cleats that are too narrow, you will end up cramping your toes inside the cleats which will lead to several foot issues such as blisters, calluses, and corns as well as foot and leg pain. On the other hand, other women end up buying longer cleats to take the pressure away from the widest part of their feet. This can also lead to the foot issues mentioned above as well as making you more prone to falling since longer shoes will compromise your stability.

The good news is that there is one particular softball cleat style that will fit your wide or extra wide feet. If you already own a pair of soccer cleats that fits the shape of your wide feet you can definitely wear them to softball, but the shoes I recommend in this article are softball cleats.

What Makes the Softball Cleats I Recommend Effective for Wide Feet?

➡️ Round Toe-Box: This feature helps prevent your toes from overlapping or rubbing against one another or the side of the shoes.

➡️ Extra Depth: This feature is really important if you tend to have high insteps, as the deeper the shoes are, the deepest your feet will fit inside the shoes. This will help prevent the top part of your foot (instep) from rubbing against the top part of the shoes.

Before I show the best wide softball shoes for women, I want to first make sure that you know your exact foot size and the features that these shoes have to offer.

Furthermore, if you prefer online shopping and are going to be buying your shoes online, you need to be absolutely sure that you know your correct foot size. For example, are you positive that you have wide feet or do you have a feeling that you might have extra wide feet? Do you know whether you have a high instep or not?

I wrote an article that describes the simplest yet most effective way to figure out your foot size from home. Please click on the link below:

How To Measure Your Foot Size – The Most Simple And Effective Way!

Wide Softball Cleats for Women – The Top 6 Features!

Softball is a game of speed and agility, which means that you will be constantly on your feet and need to be ready to perform inning after inning, so finding the right pair of softball cleats is key. You need to fit your wide feet and feel comfortable in your cleats.

Below are the 6 most important features that softball cleats must provide:

1️⃣ Firm Heel Counter: This feature will cushion, protect and support your heels. Cleats that come with a firm heel counter are also effective in repenting injuries.

2️⃣ Extra Depth: This feature will allow your feet to sit further down in the shoes and prevent the top part of your feet and toes from rubbing against the top part of the shoes.

3️⃣ Rounder Toe-Boxes: Shoes that come with a round toe-box will prevent your toes from rubbing against one another or the side of the shoes.

4️⃣ Lightweight and Flexible: Since softball is a game of speed, the cleats must be lightweight and flexible to allow you to perform at your best. These features will also prevent your feet and legs from easily getting tired.

5️⃣ Optimal Traction: Since there are a lot of sudden stops in softball your cleats need to provide good traction.

6️⃣ Substantial Outsole: This feature will provide shock absorption and reduce the impact that your feet and legs take every time they come in contact with the ground.

The cleat style that I will show you shortly provides all those 6 key features and will keep your feet and legs healthy. However, I am always emphasizing to women that it doesn’t matter how many features a particular shoe style provides, if the shoes don’t fit the shape of your feet perfectly, you won’t get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer.

Once you have your softball cleats on, check if you notice a small bump poking out in the widest area of the shoes. Take a look at the picture below for clarification:

I only review shoe styles that I have fitted before since that is the only way for me to tell how well-made the shoes are, the amount of support that they provide, and how they fit.

Keep in consideration that shoes can run short, long, narrow, or wide, and depending on how they run you will need to adjust the size that you get for yourself.

You always want to wear a half a size longer of the size that you measure in the shoe measuring scale in order to prevent your toes from rubbing against the side or the front of the shoes.

Although…

If you measure a foot size 5 and the shoes fit “short”, then you will need to choose the shoe size 6 to allow enough wiggle room (a whole size longer instead of half a size longer). On the other hand, if the shoes fit “long then you will need to pick the same shoe size instead of going a half a size longer (since the shoes already fit long).

What Shoe Size Should You Order?

To prevent your toes from rubbing against the front or side part of these softball shoes, I highly recommend that you order this shoe style a whole size larger than the size that your feet measure. This translates to 3/8 of an inch or 0.8 centimeters of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoes.

If you are wearing softball cleats that are too narrow, you will notice how your pinky toe (small toe) is going to be pressed against the side of the shoes by the other toes.

The Best Softball Socks for Women – Breathable and Comfortable!

Sport socks play a key role in keeping your feet healthy when playing softball since they act as a barrier between your feet and the cleats. The right type of softball socks will help carry moisture off the skin so it can release through evaporation, keeping your feet dry and preventing excessive rubbing.

Certain softball socks provide cushion to targeted areas of your feet, and this will prevent you from developing foot issues such as blisters, calluses, and corns.

Finding the right pair of softball socks will make all the difference in comfort and foot health for you. That is the reason why I have put together a selection of the best softball socks for women:

These socks are breathable, soft, and durable. Another awesome feature of these socks is how they won’t cramp your toes, as long as you get the correct sock size. Socks that are too short will cramp your toes and make them rub against one another. On the other hand, socks that are too long will bunch up below your feet and make you feel uncomfortable.

In addition, if you have children who play softball and have wide or extra wide feet, then you should take a look at an article I wrote where I describe the best wide softball cleats for kids. Please click on the link below.

  1. Why do you focus on women’s shoes? I play men’s senior softball and cannot find molded cleat shoes wide enough. Everywhere I look they never have my size and width available. I have tried New Balance on-linee and through customer service. They don’t take back orders, and said they restock every couple weeks. I have been to every shoe store in my area and they always say they sell out of wide shoes very quickly. Apparently, manufacturers don’t make enough. My normal shoe size is 10 – 10.5. My NB tennis shoes are EEEE. I have tried 11 wide, but I even have trouble finding them. At this point, I’m not fussy about color or style. I would just like a shoe that is available. Do you have any suggestions?

    • Hello Dan,

I am mostly experienced with women’s shoes, and I only recommend shoes that I have fitted before. Are you able to wear soccer cleats in you league? There is a specific soccer cleat that works very well for wide feet and it also provides extra depth: Soccer Shoe
