Shoes for Women with Dwarfism — Extra Wide and Extra Deep!

Shoes For High Instep Feet

Editor’s Note: This post has been completely revamped and updated for accuracy on May 2022 and reflects an up-to-date selection of the best shoes for women with dwarfism.

Do you have any form of dwarfism and are having a tough time finding shoes that fit and that are comfortable? Most women with dwarfism or achondroplasia have the hardest time finding shoes that fit as people with dwarfism may have short, but wide feet. They might also have to deal with several foot conditions such as flat feet, rolled and flexible ankles, bowed legs, and extra wide feet. These conditions make it complicated to find shoes that fit.

On top of finding a shoe style that provides good support and stability, you will have to find a shoe that provides extra depth and comes with a round toe-box to accommodate the shape of your wide or extra wide feet.

Genetics and a diverse number of medical conditions can cause dwarfism. Generally, these disorders are divided into two broad categories: disproportionate and proportionate.

If you have disproportionate dwarfism you will notice how you have an average size torso but shorter arms and legs. Whereas if you have proportionate dwarfism, your body parts are in proportion but shortened. Whichever one of these conditions you have, it’s important to find the correct pair of shoes to accommodate and support your feet. The correct pair of shoes will also help improve your overall posture and prevent foot, leg, and lower back pain.

I know for a fact that finding the correct pair of shoes for a woman with dwarfism can be really frustrating and time-consuming, especially if you don’t know what shoe styles to look for. One common request that I’ve noticed women make is to find shoes that are wide enough for their feet and comfortable and supportive at the same time.

Women with dwarfism usually experience foot and leg pain from being flat-footed and having rolled ankles, and I have also seen certain cases where they were experiencing lower back pain or numbness.

I have also helped women fit orthotics inside of their shoes for extra support. However, I always recommend starting with a pair of supportive shoes before you decide to invest in a pair of orthotics.

I will show you a selection of the best shoes for women with dwarfism, but first I want to show you what features these shoe styles will provide and how to figure out your exact foot size from home.

Key Features of Shoes for Women with Dwarfism – Get Them All!

There are 5 key features that your shoes must provide to accommodate the shape of your extra wide feet:

✅ Extra Depth: This is a key feature that most women are not aware of. If you have extra wide feet, choosing shoes that are labeled as extra wide (“XW”) is simply not enough. You also need to make sure that the shoes come with extra depth, to prevent the top part of your feet (instep), from rubbing against the top part of the shoes. Let me show you the difference in depth between two shoes in the same length and width:

✅ Rounder Toe-Boxes: This feature helps prevent your toes from rubbing against one another or the side of the shoes. Shoes that come with rounder toe-boxes help prevent you from getting blisters on your toes. Take a look at the difference in toe-boxes between one of the shoes I recommend and a different style:

✅ Firm Heel Counter: This is the back part of the shoes that provides ankle and heel support. Always check the heel counter of the shoes and make sure it feels firm.

✅ Lightweight/Flexible: Your shoes must be supportive, but lightweight and flexible at the same time to prevent your feet and legs from easily getting tired.

✅ Substantial Outsole: Shoes that come with a substantial sole with arch support will prevent your feet from collapsing and turning inwards or outwards. This feature might also be referred to as shock absorption and will reduce the impact that your feet and legs receive every time they touch the ground.

In addition to providing all of these features, you need to make sure to wear the correct shoe size. This means getting the correct shoe length and the correct shoe width.

Finding Out Your Exact Foot Size — Easy & Simple!

Knowing your correct shoe size is key for feeling comfortable and keeping your feet healthy. You should especially know your correct foot size if you are going to be buying your shoes online.

Wearing a great pair of shoes with great features but in the wrong foot size is truly a waste. What’s even worse, you can end up creating all sorts of foot issues to your feet such as blisters, calluses, and corns. But that doesn’t have to be the case for you!

The Best Shoes for Women with Dwarfism ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Below you can find a selection of the best shoes for women with dwarfism. All of these shoes are available in different widths such as medium (M), wide (W), and extra wide (XW) widths. Although, it’s is highly likely that you will need to order the extra wide width for your feet.

You always want to wear half a size longer than the size that you measure in the shoe measuring scale to prevent your toes from rubbing against the side or the front of the shoes. Most women with dwarfism end up buying a whole size longer to accommodate the shape of their feet.

What Shoe Size Should You Order?

Take a look at the description below the shoes that I recommended to find out what shoe size you should order.

The Best Socks for Women with Dwarfism – Seamless & Breathable!

If you have wide or extra wide feet, it’s important that you wear socks that are seamless to prevent your toes from rubbing or overlapping one another.

I have found that seamless socks are the most effective ones for women with extra wide feet. In addition to being seamless, your socks also need to be breathable and durable.

You shouldn’t underestimate the important role that socks play in keeping your feet healthy as they mainly act as a barrier between your feet and the shoes. Socks prevent infections and the formation of bacteria inside the shoes.

On a related note, if you have a child with dwarfism who also needs a pair of shoes, you can take a look at an article I wrote where I describe the best shoes for kids with dwarfism. Please click on the link below.

The Best Shoes for Dwarfism – Supportive, Lightweight, Flexible, and Extra Deep!

In addition to sneakers, there are other types of shoes such as Mary Jane and boots that provide extra depth and a rounder toe-box. However, the selection is very limited, since I have fitted only a couple of shoe styles that can accommodate an extra wide foot. Never settle for shoes that are too narrow for your feet, there is always at least one particular shoe style out there that will fit the shape of your feet.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if are having trouble finding any other pair of shoes such as dress shoes, boots, sandals, etc. to accommodate the shape of your feet. It’s highly likely that I have fitted the shoes before and I will help you find them:

You are fabulous. Best way to start is for you to trace your feet and send me pictures of the tracings. Draw a line longest point toe to heel and widest point at ball of foot and indicate the measurements on the drawing.

Looking forward to working with you.
