Do you have small feet (shoe size 5 or smaller) and have the hardest time finding a pair of comfortable and stylish boots that are available in your shoe size? Have you walked into several shoe stores or searched online but can’t seem to find a good selection of shoes in your size? I get contacted by several women with small feet who complain about how frustrating and time-consuming it can be to find shoes that fit. Since I have gotten many questions and requests for specific shoe recommendations, I decided to create a resource that showcases the best wide boots for women with small feet.
Do You Wear a Women’s Shoe Size 5 or Smaller?
How small are your feet? Most women who contact me require a petite shoe size below size 5. Did you know that many children’s shoes are mirror images of larger men’s and women’s shoe styles? Large sizes in children’s shoes are easily converted to small sizes in adult shoes. For example, did you know that if you wear a women’s shoe size 5 or smaller you can get the kids’ version of the shoe and access a larger selection of shoes and at the same time save a lot of money?
If your foot size measures a size 5 you will get the kids’ shoe size 3 1/2. If you measure a foot size 4 1/2 you will get the kids’ shoe size 3. Makes sense?
Here is a chart I created to help you better understand how this shoe size conversion works:
My Experience Helping Women with Small Feet
I have been fitting children’s and women’s shoes for the last 10 years, and I specialize on helping people with “complicated” foot shapes as well as foot and leg conditions.
Before I show you a list of the best wide boots for women with small feet I want to first make sure that you know your exact foot length and shape. For example, you might be positive that you have small feet, but how small exactly are they? In addition, do you know whether your feet are narrow, medium, wide, or extra wide? Do you know whether you have a high instep or not? These are all factors that determine what specific shoes you should wear.
Find Out Your Exact Foot Length and Shape
Your foot shape and size can change over time, and some of the factors that contribute to this change are pregnancy, aging and weight gain or loss. Over time and because of gravity, our feet might get longer and wider.
As we age, the body’s ligaments and tendons lose their strength and ability to spring back. This means that our arches decrease, which flattens and lengthens the foot and toes.
This often results in an increase in shoe size by a half-size or more. You might also experience a change in foot width, meaning that even though you always ordered medium width shoes now you might have to start ordering wider shoes.
Don’t insist on getting your shoes in a specific size simply because that has been the size that they always wore. I usually have to insist to them that they need to at least try the shoes in a different size to see how they feel.
Buying shoes online can be a challenge. If you are unsure of your current foot shape or foot length, I suggest that you take a look at a different resource I created where I help women determine their exact foot shape from home:
