☑️ Extra Depth: The deeper the shoes the better. This feature will allow your feet to sit comfortably inside the shoe, especially if you have high instep. Let me show you the difference between a pair of deep shoes and one that is not. Below is a picture of an orthotic fitted in a pair of New Balance shoes (grey and pink) and Asics (all black). Do you notice how deep the orthotic is fitting inside the New Balance shoe compared to the Asics shoe style?

☑️ Substantial Outsole: This feature will minimize the impact that your feet and legs take every time they become in contact with the ground. A shoe that comes with a supportive sole will also prevent your feet from collapsing (in case you have flat feet) and will allow you to walk and run straighter.

☑️ Firm Heel Counter: This feature will cushion and protect your ankles. You should always press on the heel counter of the shoes to make sure it feels firm. Do you know what the heel counter of the shoe is? Please take a look at the picture below for clarification:

☑️ Good Traction: This will reduce the likelihood of slipping and falling, especially when walking on wet surfaces.

Remember that fit remains our top priority, and if the shoes are not the right size, you won’t get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer.

Women with extra wide feet have a very hard time finding shoes that fit, and the most common mistake I see women make is to end up buying longer shoes to compensate for the width. I strongly suggest that you stop doing this, since you will not only end up compromising your stability, but you will also end up creating all the foot issues mentioned above since your feet will be moving too much inside the shoe.
