Comfortable Business Shoes for Women – Stylish, Supportive, and Affordable!

After I wrote several articles that describe the most comfortable sneakers for women, I received several requests about writing an article about the most comfortable business shoes for women. If this is your first time reading one of my articles, you should know that I have been fitting women’s shoes for the last 10 years. I work for a shoe store that focuses on helping women with complicated foot shapes (narrow, wide, high instep) as well as foot problems (flat feet, plantar fasciitis). I am here to help you find a pair of  comfortable but not unattractive and practical but not comical business shoes.

Your office attire might have an impact on how some people perceive you in the workplace. You want to wear the appropriate shoes but also lessen the burden on your feet and wear comfortable shoes.

As much as I want to please your fashion needs, I want to make you aware from the get-go that business shoes call for comfort and to prevent feeling tired all day long. I won’t be describing any high heels in this article simply because they usually lead to tension, inflammation, and blisters. High heels usually place the foot at an angle and often throw the joints and muscles out of alignment. You will notice that some of the business shoes that I recommend come with a two-inch heel which is the ideal height!

Unfortunately, business shoes have earned a reputation for being uncomfortable. However, the business shoes that I will show you shortly will support your feet and accommodate your foot shape (narrow, medium, wide, extra wide, high instep), as they are available in different widths.

What Type of Business Shoe Works Best for Women?

In my experience, high heels can be rough on your feet and ballet flats don’t feel much better as they don’t provide much support. Somewhere in the middle are stylish and comfortable work shoes for women.

The idea is to find a pair of shoes that are low-heeled, provide a supportive outsole, and have enough room in the toe box so your toes don’t get squished.

What Makes the Business Shoes that I Recommend the Most Comfortable Ones for Women?

1️⃣ Supportive Outsole with a Solid Block Heel: Many women over 40 suffer from foot problems that require shoes with more arch and heel support. A solid block heel provides posture support and ample balance, while a wider toe area leaves room for feet to expand as they may swell throughout the day. I will provide you with a link to these shoes shortly.

2️⃣ Fit Different Foot Shapes: The shoes that I recommend are available in different widths such as narrow, medium, wide, or extra wide. I will also explain what shoes are deeper than others (in case you have a high instep). For example, the shoe below is available in narrow widths (N).

3️⃣ Lightweight and Flexible: It’s important for your shoes to be supportive, but they need to be lightweight and flexible at the same time to prevent your feet from getting tired.

Most of the business work shoes that I recommend are made from genuine leather as they are miles better than synthetic options and last a very long time.

Do You Know Your Exact Foot Length and Shape?

It’s a complete waste of money to spend on comfortable business work shoes that are slightly too big, too small, too narrow, or too wide.  Think how sore your feet muscles will become!

If you prefer to shop online you must be 100% sure of your foot length and shape. Don’t insist on buying the same shoe size just because that’s the size that you have worn for most of your life. Your foot shape and size can change over time, and some of the factors that contribute to this change are pregnancy, aging and weight gain or loss. Over time and because of gravity, our feet might get longer and wider.

As we age, the body’s ligaments and tendons lose their strength and ability to spring back. This means that our arches decrease, which flattens and lengthens the foot and toes. This often results in an increase in shoe size by a half-size or more.
