I am not a medical professional, but I have helped hundreds of women with supination find the correct types of shoes to significantly reduce, and in some cases, fully eliminate their foot and leg pain. In some cases, you might need to fit an orthotic inside the shoes for extra support, but it all starts with wearing a pair of supportive shoes.

Do Shoe Companies Manufacture Shoes for Women with Supination?

Unfortunately, most shoe companies don’t manufacture walking or running shoes specifically made for women with high arches.

I have read studies that report that approximately only 10 to 20% of the population have high arches. I believe that is one of the main reasons why there are almost no shoes or orthotics geared towards women with this problem.

Some women who come to the shoe store ask me whether it’s better to have flat feet or high arches. I tell them that whether having high arches is better or worse than having flat feet is irrelevant, because they both present their own unique set of challenges.

Grab a pair of your everyday shoes, it can be an old pair or a pair that you have been wearing for more than a month. Take a close look at the wear pattern on the outsoles of your shoes.

It’s always advisable to visit your local shoe store to get a proper shoe fitting so you can try some different models to make sure you end up with a suitable shoe for your foot strike and foot shape. However, the advantage of ordering online is that there are usually more sizes available than in regular stores. 

Just so you know, a certain degree of supination is considered natural for most people, but in cases when the feet are over supinated, it can place extra stress on the foot and leg and can cause issues such as ankle instability and problems elsewhere.
