My Experience Fitting Shoes for Women with Wide Feet

For the past 10 years I have been helping women find the perfect pair of shoes. I work for a family shoe store where we specialize in all different types of women’s foot shapes including those with “wide” feet or other special considerations.

Through my experience, I have learned that every woman´s foot is unique and that their footwear needs will vary depending on their foot type and shape. For example, some women think they simply have wide feet, but in actuality, they fall into the extra wide category. Others have wide feet along with high insteps which require shoes in extra wide widths, and with additional depth for comfortable.

Do You Have a Foot Condition that Makes it Harder to Find Shoes that Fit?

Additional physiological conditions such as flat feet, bunions, high arches, etc. will also factor into the shoe size you should order. Keeping this in mind, the size W is an oversimplified notion at best.

You might read reviews about shoes that worked well for other women and automatically assume that the shoes will work well for you, but this is not always the case.

Although often overlooked, your shoes are one of the most intimate pieces of clothing separating your feet from the cold hard ground for hours every single day. Finding the perfect fit here makes every step you take that much better, and effectively reduces fatigue.

With the seemingly endless and daunting list of options, a specialist such as myself can help take the guess work out of shoe shopping and ensure that you find the perfect pair that both yourself and your feet will love.

Start the process by asking yourself a few simple questions and do not hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance!

Are You Wearing the Right Size Shoe? – Do You Know Your Exact Foot Shape?

Did you know that there is a study by the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society that showed that 88% of American women wear shoes that are too small?

There is nothing more uncomfortable than wearing the wrong size shoe! Be aware that your foot shape and size can change overtime. This can happen because of pregnancy, aging, and weight gain or loss. The ligaments and tendons also lose strength due to aging and make our arches decrease which can flatten and lengthen the foot and toes. Because of this I recommend you get your feet measured every 6 months. Additionally, when it comes to sizes you don’t only need to look for the length of your foot but also the width!  Quality measurements start with expert consultation, so let me help you find the perfect combat boots for you!

How to Measure Your Foot Shoe Size – The Most Simple and Effective Way!

What Makes a Combat Boot Effective for Wide Feet?

1️⃣ Let’s start with the obvious. The boot must be available in wide sizes but be aware sometimes this is not enough! Some brands offerings of wide sizes do not provide the proper space for your foot.

2️⃣ Rounder toe- boxes to give your foot more space. You don’t want your toes rubbing against each other or the side of the boots! Avoid pointy-toe combat boots!

3️⃣ Extra depth is especially important if you have high insteps as it prevents the top part of your feet to rub against the top part of the boots which can be very painful

Do You Know Whether You Have a High Instep or Not?

It is important to know whether you have a high instep or not as this will help determine the right combat boot for you. The instep is the top part of the feet. When you have a high instep, it is harder to find shoes that fit comfortably.

An easy way to find out if you have a high instep is to ask yourself the following questions:

➡️ Do you have a hard time getting your shoes on and off?

➡️ Do you feel like the shoes always put pressure on the top part of your feet?

If the answer is yes, you might have high insteps. This means that you have extra foot volume that needs to comfortably fit in the shoes you are looking for. In order to find shoes that will accommodate your high instep you need to look for shoes with extra depth.

Now that you know your foot size and what makes the combat boots that I recommend ideal for women with wide feet like yours, let’s take a look at a list of the best combat boots for women with wide feet. Most of the combat boots I recommend below are available in wide and extra wide widths, so make sure that you choose the shoe width accordingly. You should also know that the boots open up nice and wide to allow you to easily slide your feet inside the boots.

What Can You Do If They Are Still Too Narrow?

If you ordered the correct size and the boots are still too narrow you should consider ordering a half-size up. If the new size still pinches your toes or does not have enough space on the top part of the boot you should look at other styles.
