Do you have extra wide feet and have the hardest time finding a pair of soccer, baseball, or softball cleats that are comfortable and wide enough for your feet? Do you feel like you usually have to buy your cleats in a larger size to alleviate the pressure on your feet? I have helped several women with extra wide feet and high insteps find the perfect pair of shoes for their feet, and I am confident I will be able to help you too. Several women who come to the shoe store that I work for seem to ask me this same question: What is the widest cleat for women?

Do Cleats for Women with Extra Wide Feet Exist?

Yes, they do! Don’t let salespeople at shoe stores tell you otherwise! Many women are told that some cleats “run” or “fit” wider than others. The cleat that I recommend is actually available in extra wide widths.

Do You Know Whether You Have a High Instep?

I have seen several women with extra wide feet who also have high insteps. Do you know what the instep of the foot is? The instep is the top part of your foot, and when it’s high, it makes it a lot more challenging to find shoes that fit.

For example, the image below shows the foot of a woman with a high instep:

What Makes the Cleat that I Recommend the Best Choice for Extra Wide Feet?

☑️ Extra Deep: This feature is really important if you tend to have high insteps, as the deeper the shoes are, the deeper your feet will fit inside the shoes. This will help prevent the top part of your foot (instep) from rubbing against the top part of the shoes.

Take a look at the image below for better visualization purposes. Do you notice how the cleat on the right is a lot deeper compared to the cleat on the left?

☑️ Round Toe-Box: This feature helps prevent your toes from overlapping or rubbing against one another or the side of the cleats. The cleats below are the same size in length, but the cleat on the left is available in extra wide widths, so it has a rounded toe-box.

Do you notice how the cleat on the right has a wider toe-box compared to the cleat on the left?

The Widest Cleat for Women ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This cleat is available in wide (W) and extra wide widths (X-Wide) so make sure that you choose the correct shoe width. I suggest choosing the extra wide width (X-Wide) to make sure that it fits the shape of your extra wide feet.

What Shoe Size Should You Order?

To prevent your toes from rubbing against the front or side part of these cleats, I highly recommend that you order this shoe style a whole size larger than the size that your feet measure. This translates to 3/8 of an inch or 0.8 centimeters of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoes.

What Types of Cleats Are These?

The cleats above are made for soccer, but they can be used for softball and baseball as well. If you play in a league you should consult with your coach before buying the shoes in case they are not allowed.

What are the Risks of Wearing Sports Shoes that Are Too Narrow?

Running around and playing sports in shoes that are too narrow might lead you to develop foot issues such as blisters, calluses, corns, and ingrown toenails. What’s even worse, once you develop a foot problem like the ones I just mentioned, it will directly impact your game as it will create discomfort.

It’s also important to wear socks that are well-padded and provide targeted cushion and support to key areas of the foot to prevent you from developing foot issues.

The Best Sports Socks for Women with Extra Wide Feet

Wearing the wrong types of socks might cramp your toes and make them rub against one another. Did you know that sweaty feet can lead to increased friction compared to dry feet? That’s why it’s so important to find a pair of sport socks that fit properly but that are also breathable.

I always explain to women that choosing the correct sock size has the same importance as choosing the correct shoe size. You won’t be comfortable in your cleats if you are not wearing the correct sock style and the correct sock size. Socks that are too small or too long will fold inside the shoe and create friction points on the skin. You must also avoid socks that are too bulky since they will also fold inside the shoe.

While most women believe that cotton is the best type of sock material they can get, they are not aware that cotton absorbs sweat but doesn’t repel it. However, the new athletic/soccer sock made of acrylic will wick the moisture away from your feet, limit friction, and provide seams that are designed to avoid pressure points. Below you can find a selection of the best sports socks for women:
