Have you been experiencing ankle pain? When you start experiencing any sort of foot pain, the first step is to check the shoes that you are currently wearing.
I have noticed through the years that most women’s foot and leg pain is directly associated with the shoes that they wear. There is a tendency to worry a lot when you are experiencing any sort of pain, but the good news is that something so simple such as wearing the correct shoe style and the correct shoe size will greatly reduce or fully eliminate the pain that you are experiencing.
In some cases, you might need an orthotic or a heel cup to be fitted inside your shoes for extra support, but it all starts with wearing the correct type of shoes.
If you have been experiencing constant heel pain, then is very likely that you are diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis.
Plantar Fasciitis is a medical condition that is caused by the inflammation of the connective tissue of the foot known as the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia runs through the arch of the foot, connecting the heel and the toes. When it becomes inflamed, you start experiencing pain in your heels or your arches. This pain is usually worst in the morning, but it tends to persist throughout the day and may also arise when you are playing sports since you are stressing your feet and legs at a whole different level.
If you have never experienced this condition, please keep in mind that it most likely feels like a stabbing pain in your feet.
Let’s also keep in mind that the condition may merely be the result of wearing shoes that don’t offer enough support for your feet. Any doctor, physical therapist, or shoe fitter will tell you that choosing the right type of shoes is critical if you suffer from plantar fasciitis.
What Makes the Shoes I Recommend Effective for Plantar Fasciitis?
The shoes I recommend provide 2 key features that make them ideal for women with plantar fasciitis:
✅ Targeted Heel Support: The shoes I recommend provide targeted cushion and support right below your heels which will help reduce the impact that your heels take when they come in contact with the ground.
✅ Firm Heel Counter: The shoes I recommend provide a firm heel counter that will also help cushion and support your heels. Always press on this area of the shoe to make sure it feels firm:
Best Shoe Brands for Women with Plantar Fasciitis
The best way to cure Plantar Fasciitis is through appropriate footwear. Some shoe companies make footwear that helps this condition and the two most effective ones are New Balance and Orthofeet.
New Balance
You might be wondering; what shoes are best for a person suffering from Plantar Fasciitis? I have found that certain New Balance shoes provide excellent arch and ankle support have proven to be the most effective ones in reducing the impact that your feet receive every time they come in contact with the ground.
I found New Balance shoes to be the most versatile one since they are available in different widths such as narrow, medium, wide, and extra wide. New Balance shoes also provide extra depth, which allows to easily fit an orthotic or a pair of heel cups inside the shoes.
Orthofeet
Orthofeet shoes offer multiple cushioning layers right below the heels that enhance comfort and ease pain. These shoes are also available in different widths such as narrow, medium, wide, or extra wide.
This shoe company has been dedicated to designing the world’s most comfortable women’s plantar fasciitis athletic shoes.
A pair of good, supportive shoes will cushion and protect your heel, allowing you to walk and run straighter, and reduce or fully eliminate the pain you were experiencing.
Wearing non-supportive footwear or going barefoot is not advisable for women who suffer from Plantar Fasciitis since it will cause you to put more strain and cause more inflammation of the plantar fascia.
Before I show you a selection of the best shoes for women with plantar fasciitis I want to make sure that you know your exact foot size and foot shape. For example, do you know whether you have narrow, medium, wide, or extra wide feet? Do you know if you have a high instep?
You won’t be able to order the correct shoe size online if you don’t know the answer to the questions above.
Shoes that are too short or too long will squeeze your feet or allow for the foot to move too much inside the shoe and will further irritate the plantar fascia. Take a look at the article below where I help women identify their exact foot size and shape:

What Shoe Size Should You Order?
To prevent your toes from rubbing against the front or side part of the shoes, I highly recommend that you order the shoes a whole size larger than the size that your feet measure. This translates to 3/8 of an inch or 1 centimeter of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoes.

Do you have a child that is suffering from Plantar Fasciitis? Take a look at an article I wrote where I describe the best shoes and heel cups for children with Plantar Fasciitis:
Heel Cups For Shoes – How to Stop Heel Pain!
That article explains the most effective way to reduce or fully eliminate your kids’ heel pain.
Wearing the proper shoes can make the world of difference when it comes to healing your plantar fasciitis condition!
If you already tried a pair of supportive shoes but your heel pain persists, then I recommend that you try a pair of heel cups inside your shoes.
What a heel cup simply does is provide extra ankle support by providing shock absorption and cushioning your ankles by reducing the impact that they take every time they come in contact with the ground.
Tuli’s Heel Cups: #1 Podiatrist Recommended Heel Cups!
This heel cup offers superior shock absorption, protects the heel, and prevents foot fatigue. This is one of the most advanced shock absorbing heel cups available today.
This heel cup will also help reduce ankle pain by acting as shock absorbers for your feet. I have fitted this heel cup in several different women’s shoes, and in most cases the pain disappeared or was significantly reduced. Below you can find the best heel cup for women with heel pain that have fitted before:
- Ideal to treat and prevent general heel pain, plantar fasciitis, Sever’s disease, excessive pronation, Achilles tendonitis
- Innovative multi-cell, multi-layer waffle pattern design, helps to absorb impact pressure (shock) and return impact energy back to the feet
- The extra cushion this heel cup includes reduces and prevents sore heels and shin splints
Getting the Correct Heel Cup Size – Get It Right!
Small Size– Best for Women with weight under 80 lbs.
Regular Size – Weight up to 175 lbs. Women’s shoe sizes 9 and under.
Large Size – Weight over 175 lbs. Women’s shoe sizes 10 and up.
Final Thoughts on Treating and Preventing Plantar Fasciitis!
- Always make sure that the shoes you wear provide excellent arch and ankle support. You need the shoes to provide a very firm heel counter to provide excellent ankle support and reduce or fully eliminate the pain you might be experiencing.
- If you are experiencing severe pain, choose your sneakers/shoes that come with shoelaces instead of velcro closure. You might find it interesting to know that sneakers that come with shoelaces always provide better support and more stability than shoes that come with velcro closure, which are also not very popular nowadays.
- Look for shoes that come with removable insoles as they will allow you to replace the original insoles with orthotics in case you need them.
