Editor’s Note: This post has been completely revamped and updated for accuracy on May 2022 and reflects an up-to-date selection of the best shoes for women with small feet.

Do you have small feet and you always have a hard time finding shoes that fit? Do you walk into several shoe stores or search online but can’t seem to find a good selection of shoes in your size? I have spoken with several women with small feet who explain to me how frustrating and time-consuming it can be to find shoes that fit.

Did you know that if you wear a women’s shoe size 8 1/2 or smaller you can get the kids’ version of the shoe and save a lot of money? If you are reading this article chances are that you have a foot size 5 or smaller, so it’s highly likely that you fall under this range.

Most women are not aware of how this shoe size conversion works or are skeptical of trying the kids’ version of the shoes because they feel they might not be as comfortable or supportive. I am here to tell you that thousands of women are already wearing kids’ shoes, and not just women with small feet.

My Experience Helping Women with Small Feet

Just so you know, the standard foot measuring tool (Brannock Device) will retrieve your women’s foot size as long as you are a size 3 or above. If your feet are smaller than a size 3 then you will have to use the Junior Brannock Device.

Women and Kids’ Shoe Size Conversion

The women’s and kids’ shoe size conversion works as long as you wear a women’s shoe size 8 1/2 or smaller. The magic formula: Your women’s shoe size – 1.5 = Your kids’ shoe size!

If your foot size measures a size 5 you will get the kids size 3 1/2. If you measure a foot size 4 1/2 you will get the kids size 3. Makes sense?

Below is also a shoe size translation chart between children’s shoe sizes and women’s shoe sizes so you can easily convert your women’s shoe size to a kids’ shoe size!

Before I show you a list of stylish and supportive kids’ shoes that you can try for yourself, I want to make sure that you know your exact foot length and shape. We know that you have small feet, but how small exactly are they? In addition, do you know whether your feet are narrow, medium, wide, or extra wide? Do you know whether you have a high instep or not? These are all factors that determine what specific shoes you should wear.

When Was the Last Time You Checked Your Foot Size?

Your foot shape and size can change over time, and some of the factors that contribute to this change are pregnancy, aging and weight gain or loss. Over time and because of gravity, our feet might get longer and wider.

As we age, the body’s ligaments and tendons lose their strength and ability to spring back. This means that our arches decrease, which flattens and lengthens the foot and toes.

This often results in an increase in shoe size by a half-size or more. You might also experience a change in foot width, meaning that even though you always ordered medium width shoes now you might have to start ordering wider shoes.

Don’t insist on getting your shoes in a specific size simply because that has been the size that they always wore. I usually have to insist to them that they need to at least try the shoes in a different size to see how they feel.

Buying shoes online can be a challenge. If you are unsure of your current foot shape or foot length, I suggest that you take a look at a different resource I created where I help women determine their exact foot shape from home:
