Extra Wide Sandals For Women – They Do EXIST!

Summer Sandals For Women With Wide Feet

Do you always have a hard time finding summer sandals to FIT your extra wide feet? Have you been looking for a comfortable, lightweight, supportive summer sandal that is available in extra wide feet?

Do you need a supportive sandal with a substantial sole and good arch support? While it might sound impossible to find a summer sandal that provides all of those features and at the same time FIT your extra wide feet , I can guarantee you that they do exist and I will describe them in this post.

I have been working for a family shoe store for over 7 years, and I am expert in fitting children, women, and men shoes. Since we are a fitting shoe store, it’s important for us to carry footwear in different widths such as narrow, medium, wide, and extra wide. That is the only way we are guaranteed to FIT all type of feet, no matter how narrow or how wide they are.

During summer time, our feet tend to sweat and swell more, so we must be cautios about the type of footwear that we choose to wear. When it comes to seasonal footwear, it’s hard to find shoes that fit, since most shoe companies don’t provide summer sandals or winter boots in extra wide widths. However, there are a few summer sandals styles that I have fitted before and I know they will fit women with extra wide feet.

There is nothing worse than wearing shoes that are too narrow for your feet. You will not only feel uncomfortable since your toes will be cramped against each other and against the side of the shoe, but you will also end up creating several issues to your feet. For example, when you wear a shoe that is too narrow, you will be more prone to developing blisters, calluses, and corns.

Most women are not aware that their feet might be wide or extra wide, and when they try a shoe that feels too tight around the width area, they end up getting a longer size to take away some of the pressure they are feeling around the widest part of their feet. While this will reduce the pressure and tighteness, you will end up getting shoes that are too long for your feet which will comrpomise your stability and also lead to foot issues.

If  when you try a sandal and it feels too tight around the width area, check if it is available in a wider width, and if it isn’t, try a different sandal style because that is not the correct sandal for your feet.

Some women only get open toed sandals because they can adjust the velcro strap around the widest part of their feet, and take some of the pressure away in the width area. While open toed sandals are great for women with wide or extra wide feet, I have fitted a few styles of closed toed sandals that will fit your extra wide feet.

NEVER underestimate the importance of well-fitting shoes! It doesn’t matter wat type of footwear you are looking for, shoes are available in different widths and even if you have extra wide feet, there are shoes that will it the shape of your feet perfectly.

While the selection is small, there are a few summer sandals styles that will fit women with extra wide feet, and I will describe them in this post.

How Can You Tell If Your Shoes Fit?

Just because a summer sandal is labeled as wide or extra wide, it doesn’t mean that it will automatically FIT the shape of your feet.

Buying the correct pair of shoes takes more than going to a shoe store, picking up the shoes from a shelf, trying them on, and having the salesperson ring your sale. I always recommend going to your local shoe store that they trust where a shoe fitter can properly measure your feet and help you find shoes that FIT.

The issue is that most women don’t have a local shoe store in their area that they trust, and they end up buying their shoes online. There is nothing wrong with this, as long as you know your actual shoe size and what particular shoe style you need to order.

However, before you order a pair of shoes online, you must know how to get your correct shoe size.

Please keep in mind that you won’t get any of the benefits that the shoe has to offer if you dont get the correct shoe size. It doesn’t matter how comfortable, supportive, and lighweight the sandal is, you will end up creating all sort of problems to your feet if you don’t get the correct shoe size!

I wrote a post where I describe the most effective and simple way to figure out your shoe size and you can find it below.

Once you know how to get your correct shoe size, you can start looking for shoes! Remember that finding the correct width size always has the same importance as finding the correct length size.

A common mistake most people make is buying shoes according to the size of their foot length, and this leads to purchasing ill-fitting shoes.

Extra Wide Sandals With Good Support?

Some women like to wear their summer sandals all day during the summer time, and they tend to switch to their sneakers for only a couple of hours. This is fine, as long as you are wearing a sandal that’s providing good support for your feet.

You will notice how supportive sandals will have a more substantial, thicker sole with a built in arch support.  Take a look at the picture below for clarification!

You will also notice how they provide good traction, so you can walk in wet and slippery surfaces without a problem.

Another awesome feature of these sandals is how they provide cushion around the heel area, which will prevent blisters from forming.

Besides providing good support, the sandals I will describe below provide the following features:

  • Antimicrobial treatment which helps keep odors at bay, and promotes a cooler, drier feel for your feet.
  • Microbuck synthetic nubuck leather and breathable mesh uppers.
  • Cushion around your ankle and heel.
  • Rubber sole with excellent traction.
  • Built in arch support.
  • They come with a removable innersole.

If you find a sandal that provides all of those features, you are guaranteed to get a good, substantial, supportive sandal to wear for several summers.

These sandals all fit “true to size”, which means that you need to go a half a size to a whole size longer in order to not cramp your toes against the end of the sandal.

Do you happen to have a child with extra wide feet that needs a pair of summer sandals? I actually wrote an article that describes the best summer sandals for children with extra wide feet and you can find them here:

The Secret To Saving Big On Women Shoes!

Did you know that if you wear a women’s shoe size 8 ½ or smaller you can get the kids version of the shoe and save a lot of money? Since the shoe store that I work for is a family store that carries children, women, and men shoes, several women end up buying the kid version of the shoe that they like since they are a lot cheaper.

However, this will only work if you wear a women’s shoe size 8 ½ or smaller, since an 8 ½ shoe size for women is an equivalent to a kids shoe size 7. A size 7 ½  is already considered a women’s shoe size, which means that you will end up paying the adult price for the shoe.

So…

If you are one of those lucky women with relatively small feet, you can find a selection of the equivalent sandals but in kids sizes!

I actually wrote a post where I describe in more detail how this shoe size conversion works and you can find that article below:

Cheap Women Shoes – The Best Way To Save Money When Buying Women Shoes

One thing that really bothers me is when a person says that they can’t wear a particular shoe style because they don’t make it in a particular size or width. Just because you have been buying your shoes in the wrong place or haven’t done proper research in finding that particular shoe style, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t EXIST!

TRUST ME when I tell you I have fitted all different type of feet. I have seen some of the widest feet, and it doesn’t matter what type of shoe you need, I will help you find it because it does EXIST!

I remember this family that came to the shoe store telling me how their child had to quit soccer since they couldn’t find a soccer cleat that came in extra wide and the child kept getting blisters on his feet. I was furious about this, since this child had to stop playing a sport he liked just because the parents didn’t know that soccer cleats in extra wide actually existed.

I ended up fitting the child and the mother in this wide pair of soccer cleats!

Yes, there is only one soccer cleat that comes in wide and extra wide widths, but it does EXIST.

I actually wrote a post about this soccer shoe style so you can help me spread the word (these cleats even comes in adult sizes). You can find that post below:

Wide Soccer Cleats For Women – They Do EXIST!

Have you been looking for an extra wide sandal for a long time? Did you know that sandals for extra wide feet even existed? Is there a particular sandal style you have tried that you know will fit a woman with extra wide feet?

  1. I wear a size 6.5 extra wide shoe , and having trouble finding a pair of sandals for myself. What do you suggest? Thank you

  2. Hi Juan Pablo,

How often should I replace my sneakers to avoid foot pain? I work out hard 5-7 times a week.

This is a very helpful site—I value your expert opinion. Thanks!

    • Hello Shannon,

There is not a set time to actually replace the sneakers (since we are all different and workout at different intensity levels), but keep a close eye on the sole of the shoe (for any signs of wear or tear), and if you start feeling any foot or leg pain then I would recommend that you change your sneakers immediately.

      I hope this helps!
