Editor’s Note: This post has been completely revamped and updated for accuracy on May 2022 and reflects an up-to-date selection of the most comfortable shoes for women with wide feet.

Finding a pair of comfortable shoes that is capable of accommodating the shape of your wide feet can be a frustrating and time-consuming experience. I know this because I get contacted by several women with wide feet daily.

Simply buying a shoe because a friend or a family remember mentioned that it worked well for their wide feet is not a guarantee that it will work for your feet.

I also noticed that several women make the common mistake of assuming that once they find a shoe that is labeled as wide (“W”, “EE”), that shoe will automatically fit the shape of their wide feet. It takes a lot more than simply choosing a shoe from the shelf hoping it will accommodate the shape of your wide feet.

Some women walk inside the store and after having their feet properly measured, they ask to see a selection of shoes that will accommodate the shape of their wide feet. There are other women who walk inside the store and once they spot a shoe that they like they will insist on wearing that shoe even though it might not the best fit for their feet.

My advice to you is that from the moment you try the shoes on they should fit comfortably.  If the shoes feel tight, don’t ask to try them in a bigger size, try them in a wider width. If they still feel too tight, it’s time to move on to a different shoe style.

Let’s be clear on one thing. Wearing shoes that are too narrow can lead to ingrown toenails, bunions, hammertoes, calluses, corns, pinched nerves, and bone spurs, as well as general foot and leg pain.

What Shoe Brands are Best for Wide Feet?

I don’t usually recommend specific shoe brands for women with wide feet for the simple fact that every single shoe brand has specific shoes that fit wider than others.

For example, among the New Balance shoe brand there are certain shoes that are deeper than others. Vionic is also a great shoe brand for women with wide feet, but not all Vionic shoes are suitable for women with wide feet.

The list I have put together will show you the best shoe styles for women with wide feet among each shoe brand.

Where Can You Find Women’s Shoes for Wide Feet?

I usually recommend women to be fitted for shoes at their local shoe store, where a shoe fitter can properly measure their feet and find shoes accordingly.

The issue is that most specialized shoe stores are closed now (they were closing even before the pandemic), so there are only a few specialized shoe stores left.

I know which shoes are better and more comfortable for a woman who has wide feet, but if the shoes are not fitted properly, you won’t get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer.

There are several factors that help determine what type of shoes you should wear. For example, are you 100% sure that you have wide feet, or do you have a feeling that you might have extra wide feet? Do you know whether you have a high instep or not?

When Was the Last Time You Checked Your Foot Size?

When was the last time you had your foot measured to check your shoe size? Your foot shape and size can change over time, and some of the factors that contribute to this change are pregnancy, aging and weight gain or loss. Over time and because of gravity, our feet will get longer and wider.

As we age the body’s ligaments and tendons lose their strength and ability to spring back. This means that our arches decrease, which flattens and lengthens the foot and toes.

This often results in an increase in shoe size by a half-size or more. You might also experience a change in foot width, meaning that even though you always ordered medium width shoes now you might have to start ordering wider shoes.

Don’t insist on getting your shoes in a specific size simply because that has been the size that they always wore. I usually have to insist to them that they need to at least try the shoes in a different size to see how they feel.

If you are unsure of your current foot shape or foot length, I suggest that you take a look at a different resource I created where I help women determine their exact foot shape from home:

How to Measure Your Foot Shoe Size – The Most Simple and Effective Way!

What Makes the Shoes I Recommend Effective for Women with Wide Feet?

☑️ Rounder Toe-Boxes: The dress shoes I recommend are available in wide widths (“EE”, “W”), and they also come with rounder toe-boxes to prevent your toes from overlapping or rubbing against one another or the side of the shoes. This feature helps prevent blisters and allows you to feel comfortable throughout the day.

☑️ Extra Depth: The shoes I recommend provide extra depth which makes them ideal for women with high insteps. The deeper the dress shoes are, the deepest your feet will fit inside the shoes, preventing the top part of your feet and toes from rubbing against the top part of the shoes.

What Makes the Shoes I Recommend Comfortable and Supportive?

These are the most important features that the shoes I recommend provide:

☑️ Non-Binding, Extra Depth Design: Soft, non-binding upper with extra depth design and wide toe box eliminates pressure on toes.

☑️ Lightweight and Flexible: While the shoes I recommend are supportive, they are lightweight and flexible at the same time to prevent your feet and legs from easily getting tired.

☑️ Support: These shoes are biomechanically engineered to alleviate stress on the joints, enhance stability and help facilitate foot motion. They all come with a substantial outsole that will reduce the impact that your feet take every time they come in contact with the ground, allowing you to walk comfortable and pain free every step you take.

The list of shoes I put together describes the ones I have fitted before at the store and they have worked for many women with wide feet, and hopefully, they will work for your feet as well.
